This was intriguing bc I was so into it and then I was bored and then I was into it and then I was bored aND THEN THE ENDING like there was no other way to end it for sure but OH MAN... I think when I was bored was just bc it was too deep for my lil brain

3.5 stars for me

I found the first 70% of the book incredibly slow and kind of boring. The last two parts really picked up and I shed a few tears at the ending. I really enjoyed Robin's character; and his progression where he becomes like his brother at the end.

7 hours 36 minutes - This really was a phenomenonal book. So rooted in the history and consequences of colonialism, the magic system was simultaneously interesting, creative, and deeply meaningful. Robin took me a while to warm to, but I ended up loving the dynamics between the core 4 students, and loved the way Kuang explored racism, sexism, and the intersection of the two.
