I recently got my hands on an e-ARC of MYWriters Penang's recently-launched HOME GROAN, an anthology of 22 stories that range from fantastical tales to nostalgic musings.

But because I've been in a terrible reading slump, it took me a while to finish up the book - because it is long. 22 stories is no joke, okay!!!

I enjoyed the fictional tales in the anthology the most, such as Wan Phing Lim's The Goddess and the Sea, the anthology's opening story which retells a tragedy from the perspective of local deities; and Winston Lim's Spice of Life is a tale of two tycoons who are childhood friends, relayed in the vein and wittiness of Crazy Rich Asians.

Unfortunately, I *personally* felt the non-fic entries put a damper on my enjoyment of the anthology. I skipped through most of them because they just could not hold my attention. Some of them read like a lengthy Facebook rant, while others had the rigidity of an SPM essay.
