Depressing, but this time it was a slow burn.

This book was nicely done! I really really enjoyed it. The ending completely tore out my heart, so beware.

Ellen Hopkins is fast becoming a favorite. While reading the books can be challenging in the way they are written, it’s A+ for content. Dark, gritty, real. This one is about a girl in a Mormon family who struggles with a crisis of faith and ends up rebelling enough to be cast away from home. Or is it to home? So good!

Aunt J’s farm provides Pattyn with the sanctuary she needs as she questions her Mormon upbringing, and Aunt J’s loving presence offers the support she desperately lacks. The novel’s ending is heartbreaking, leaving a lasting emotional impact. While the romance between Pattyn and a college sophomore may raise ethical concerns, readers may still find themselves rooting for their relationship. However, the ominous insinuation of Pattyn’s plan for vengeance adds a sense of unease—I can only hope she chooses a different path.

I have read every single book written by Ellen Hopkins and this book was definitely different then her usual books. Instead of there being five or six different characters there was one. Her story was quite like all of her other books, but Burned was by far my favorite book written by this author.

for the first book i read by her. it's been imprinted that things can be different than what you would think.
