This is an excellent book for mature teens or even adult women who are just learning FAM. I wish I had learned this stuff 25 years ago!

An excellent book! I wish it had been around when I was a teen. Both of my girls will definitely be getting a copy when they are in their mid-teens.

This book for mature teens has easy to understand information about how to chart one's menstrual cycle in order to understand the various physical and emotional changes that happen including fertility. The author recommends charting as a means to understand more about our unique bodies and cycles. She says everyone's cycle is a little different just like we all have our own fingerprints. By charting we can learn about our overall health, our fertility, and more. There is a section for Moms and daughters to share with each other about their cycles and what they have learned. This book also has a well thought out section on early sexual experiences to help young women make an informed decision about when to start having sex. The author quotes a variety of adult women reflecting on their early sexual experiences both positive and negative. The author advocates treating ourselves with respect and being very thoughtful about when, where and with whom to have sex especially your "first time." While there are a variety of voices there are many situations and issues that are not explored in this book. It's a really great book for teens to learn about the biology of their cycles and how to predict when they will get their periods for example. In the appendix there is more detailed info about birth control, STI, and additional resources. This book doesn't say anything about bisexuality or homosexuality. The information it has on HPV is not consistent with what I have learned from other sources. It is worth noting that this author previously wrote a separate book about how to use charting as a tool in natural birth control, but she does not teach this birth control method in this book and advises against it for teens. She says that many people who learned FAM from her asked why they didn't learn this info when they were younger and that was the inspiration for this book that targets teens. She recommends women consider Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) when they are older and have been in a stable monogamous relationship for some time. Overall, this is a great book for learning about and understanding our menstrual cycles and fertility.
