Okay, Mr. Nyles Adams! I see you brotha! Confidence is super sexy and he had that sh** in spades! He kept it real with Trevia, but never kept her guessing about his feelings. He was upfront from the get-go and didn’t let her get away with any BS because she tried it being in denial and letting Wes, that fool ex of hers try to ruin her future. And speaking of Wes's sorry a**—he was a darn hot mess! He had a lot of nerve trying to worm his way back into Trevia's life after all the foolishness he pulled, and the way he let his wife humiliate Trevia. That dog ought to be glad he was still breathing when he really should have had his head busted to the white meat! It took Trevia a little too long to set him straight and that's how she ended in a position that had the potential to mess with her future with Nyles. Glad she got that mess--err Wes together because my man Nyles!! Whew! A master with words who loved on his soul mate with everything that was within him. Trevia didn't need to be losing out on all that with her crazy self! Skype and Facetime?! At the same time?! I'm sorry, I'm still buggin out about that part.

I usually am NOT a fan of poetry, so when the first one came up in the story, I groaned outwardly because I did NOT want to read it. I almost stopped reading this book because of the poetry. But Nyles Adams! Darnit! You have me wanting to go to an open mic night to find me one of you! He was super cocky, but in a funny way. he had me chuckling but also wanting to punch him in the throat for being so cocky! When he freestyled the poem for her, my heart melted. How awesome would that be to be fan-girling over someone and they freestyle something for you in front of an audience. Something so intimate without them even knowing you personally. Ahhh! A girl can only dream!

I am soooooo happy that Trevia was able to recover from her MESSY breakup. WTF! I would have called every cop, detective, attorney and would have filed some form of complaint or lawsuit to get every dime I spent back! I To recover from something like that takes tremendous strength and power. You go girl!!!

Made for me

Love doesn't come easy for Trevia and who can blame her? I found myself in a similar situation with a man like Wesley. Though i have not yet found my Nyles. Alexandria's books always give me a sense of hope at finding black love.

One of the reasons I love this author is because she makes me feel seen as a black woman. I can relate to her characters because they come in different shades, shapes, sizes, and educational backgrounds. They by be many different skills and interests! I love her works.

This story is a great read!

Stop talking to your shady exes!

This was a cute and compelling story that made me yell at the heroine the entire time. The premise is that Trevia is one year post a horrifically bad break up (for the awful toxic relationship we saw her in in book 1) and is still very much off men and dating and relationships, when she sees and becomes borderline obsessed with slam poet, Nyle, at a club/lounge night. But don’t worry, it’s not creepy because Nyle also noticed her and is also lowkey obsessed with her. But still traumatized by her breakup, Trevia is scared of starting something new.

I enjoyed this novel even though many times I wanted to lend the hero some common sense. She puts her extremely beautiful and healthy and supportive and respectful relationship in jeopardy because she wants to be nice to an ex! Girl bye!!! I liked this one and I’m always amazed by this author’s ability to make you feel invested in her stories and to build an imperfect but gorgeous community and family around her characters that make the story feel well-rounded. There is quite a lot of spice in this and I don’t think quite so much of it was needed but I guess spice is a matter of taste.

Trevia and Nyles

I'm looking for my Nyles because he was so smooth with his words. I don't understand how Trevia could deny this man. He was cocky but sweet, hood but intellectual. What a combination! Who the heck is Wesley after Nyles?!

Love me some Nyles!

I love me a man who can bend words and Nyles had me at hello! Alexandria knows how to create a man that makes you salivate. I love Trevia’s heart. Despite all the hurt she has endured, she is still a kind soul. Another great one!

Nyles seemed too possessive and jealous, and Trevia too codependent. I found myself side-eyeing too many parts of the story. I get it, it’s a romance, so things tend to move fast. But Nyles and Trevia’s relationship seemed to move unbelievably fast and I wasn’t quite convinced they were right for each. Trevia kept judging her sister’s relationship, but yet she made mistake after mistake and questionable choices herself. I wasn’t convinced Trevia learned anything. I wasn’t convinced that she found her own self and voice.
