There’s a lot that is hard to suspend disbelief for, like with how smart Billy is how did he not see before he even took the job that it was a set up? Especially after  Nick tells him specifically how to leave the scene, right after saying Billy is a houdini himself. He has sense enough to make a new identity and make his own escape plan, but how does he not realize even if they weren’t planning on killing him already that they’d be okay eith him changing the plan? Either way, he shoulda known there was no pay day for him, as smart as he is. The relationship between him and Alice is kinda bs. Alice’s only indication of trauma after being gang raped is having panic attacks for a short amount of time after. Then she attaches to Billy way too quickly, and I get there’s a Stockholm syndrome/savior obsession there but especially Alice’s sexual feelings towards him right after being raped? I feel like she’d be platonic only and the thought of sex would be appalling to her for a while after her trauma. Of course, everyone is different and it’s possible someone could act like Alice, but it’s very unlikely. Considering she recognizes Billy as the shooter within hours of waking up to him, their friendship just feels a little too hard to believe. Felt like King took a few liberties to make the story work. Still, if you can suspend enough disbelief it’s a fun read and it’s Stephen King so the characters are incredibly written and the action scenes are richly detailed.
