It was a little slow at first but the overall story was great. The storyline that I thought was the main plot came to a conclusion in the first 1/4 of the book so I was so confused about what the rest of the book was going to be about, but I ended up really enjoying it.

I absolutely loved this, definitely one of my favorite Stephen King books. I love his crime fiction.

3.5 ⭐ It was an alright read. A bit of an exercise in baking a cake wherein the story went a certain way because the plot said it had to rather because it really made sense to. The frame story is about an ex-Marine sniper turned assassin who only kills 'bad' guys, within the frame the assassin is writing a book about how he got to the point where killing 'bad' guys for money became his life.
This isn't a timeless Steven King story like "The Stand" or "Misery", it's very much in the now (there are call outs to Trump, foreshadowing of the pandemic and character stand ins for Jeffrey Epstein) and probably won't age well. But it wasn't bad and it got me through a couple of long flights.

This is the first book that my husband and I are reading at the same time and I can’t wait for him to finish so we can talk about it. It’s also my first Stephen King novel and it’s no wonder he’s an award winning author. Wow. The narration, the story itself, the details all kept me glued to the page. The twists I expected never materialized probably because it would’ve been too lazy, too easy, too predictable. Instead, I was treated to an unpredictable twist (the why behind who hired Joel Allen’s hit) and a satisfying conclusion. Felt true to the characters and the reader’s journey.
