What a trip. The beginning was boring but picked up about a third of the way into the book. I didn’t know what was real and what wasn’t but that’s kind of the point. Luckily, in the end, it all comes together and questions are answered. It left me feeling a bit exhausted.

I heard so many things about this book, good and bad, before reading, and at some point I had a hard time starting it because I just didn't know what to expect! When I felt ready to ignore it all and jump in, I was pleasantly surprised. The absolute mystery and overwhelming sense of cat-and-mouse with the idea of obtaining some kind of control of the situation was thrilling and exciting, and it couldn't stop listening to my audiobook! In some ways, this felt like a wonderful combination of Jane Eyre, Hill House, and Annihilation. I can't wait to check out more from Starling, because this was a big win with me!

This book started out so promising, but by the end it felt like I was going through psychological torture. Midway through I was thinking we were nearing the end but NOoO. I couldn't believe it dragged on as long as it did.

In one word - slog. Two words - don't read.
