I enjoyed the set up in the first half but the second felt sort of all over the place. The mix of the emphasis on math equations and not very well defined magic was a bit confusing. I just don’t think it was for me.

Well that was .. weird. I was completely sold on the first half of the book - just the kind of classical turn of the century-haunted house-ghost story that I love! But then it got weird. Too repetitive descriptions of night after night with the same events and rituals, of which none made sense. Makes me wonder if the writer herself was on a diet of raw eggs, cocaine and sleep deprivation while writing. Mostly intriguing and easy to get into earns it 3 stars.
