I am unashamedly still loving this series. This was one of my favourite of the series because of the drama of Jake ending up with a Yeerk in his head. The fear of not having control over your brain and being taken over by something or someone is quite visceral.

I do have a question: he morphs into a flea at one point with the Yeerk in him - I'm guessing that means the Yeerk changes form with Jake? Silly question to ask, probably, considering we're talking about a group of kids turning into animals.

4.5 stars because even with its flaws, this remains addictive reading and I adore this specific book.

This book is a really interesting entry into the series. I appreciated that we got a whole new perspective on the experience of being a controller that really upped the stakes and grief experienced by our main characters.
