It's been a while since I've read book 1 in the series, but it was easy to pick it right back up. Slow paced and character-driven, Debbie Macomber writes a great cozy palate cleanser.

I am listening to this series on audiobook to fall asleep. It's fluff and doesn't require much thought. It doesn't have a lot of intrigue or action so I'm not tempted to stay awake to find out what happens next. It's perfect for my purposes.

It does bug me that the name of the bed and breakfast changes back and forth. The owner buys a sign that says "Inn at Rose Harbor" but answers her phone "Rose Harbor Inn"

The writing is just meh. The author loves to describe all the minutae of her character's movements such as "I decided to save the salad for my lunch the following afternoon. After covering it with plastic wrap, I set it inside the refrigerator." Can't she just say "I decided to save my salad for lunch tomorrow?

She also has very strange ways of phrasing dialogue that real people would not say that is irritating. Mostly I've noticed it with Annie who is a such a whiny character anyway so perhaps that just goes along with it.

I rarely read this genre, but needed a break. Macomber writes lovely, predictable romances, without all of the gratuitous sex scenes found in most chick lit. A quick, enjoyable read.

Another enjoyable read by this author.
Really makes me want to go to the Rose Harbor In, And eat some of Joe Marie's yummy cookies! Once again I really enjoyed the stories of the people that came to visit, and was happy with the healing and growth everyone went through. And yes, they left the in healthier and happier people.
And it was nice at the very end of the book to get a glimpse at where the previous story was headed, into and even happier ever after.

Another trip to The Rose Harbor Inn... and a fun one at that.
Jo Marie is helping out, and she has a couple sets of people looking for resolutions to some problems in their life, and their damn sure going to find it in Cedar Cove.

As always, it's a well written book. It's hard to put down and, once again, the characters are a lot of fun and you find yourself rooting for love every step of the way!!!!

3.5

This was a nice little fluff read. Sometimes I just need something light to give my brain a break. I'm not big on romance stories but these aren't too bad. This story was cute and sometimes a little sad. I do like the characters from the Cedar Cove series so I love when their names pop up in these stories. When I read about Amanda I thought of the short story, "What Amanda Wants" and but in this case it's the mother that has cancer. I wish things moved a little faster, like with the obvious romance that is brewing between the handyman and the innkeeper. The cranky old man bit is getting old.

This was just as nice as the first. I'm looking forward to the rest. Mark reminds me of my husband, Mark. I'm looking forward to seeing Jo Marie's relationship break down his grumpiness.

My blog post about this book is at this link.

It actually saddens me to say that the first half I felt was boring. I read all of Debbie Macomber's book. Everyone of them I felt like I was in the community where the story took place, but I didn't get that feeling right away with this one. I enjoyed the ending with that being said, I couldn't give it a higher rating.
