"It had seemed like a surefire hit—timely, smart, and playing to all the most popular tropes. But in her heart, she’d never really connected with the characters or their journey."
This book has Issues. It's so disappointing because the author can write. She has a very readable style, light and candid, but all the other story elements were poor to nonexistent. I wasn't blown away by the first 25% of the book, but I was content to continue. Then I started getting annoyed by the stupidity of the characters. I'm not a genre expert but I don't think the point of an accidental marriage trope is to actively avoid mentioning the marriage. At the 50% point, the plot takes a sharp left turn to a completely different story. I was actually grateful for the third act conflict; the romantic lead admits that he knew very early on that their marriage wasn't real, revealing that he had lied to the girl for most of their time together. 30 seconds of Google had told me that the marriage couldn't have been valid, which made the girl's absolute refusal to take any real action on their marriage -- despite repeatedly saying how much she wanted out of it -- even more frustrating. The conflict resolves in no time flat -- two chapters, maybe? -- and the epilogue, as several reviewers have noted, is written by the dog. Poorly.
It feels like Walker had two or three stories she wanted to tell using the same uninspired female lead. She should have turned this into a series so that the plot of this didn't feel like such a jumble and so she could develop the male lead beyond constantly fetishizing his Irish accent and making his only personality trait "loves the girl unconditionally from minute one." Seriously, he is the most bland, limp noodle of a romantic lead.

Minor: Infidelity
To get the male lead's dog on a flight, the female lead pretends the dog is her emotional support animal. This was annoying/upsetting to some reviewers.britwalsh16's review against another edition

I don’t know if it was the Irish heritage, setting, & background; or if it was the story. But I just LOVED this book!!! It was a mix between P.S. I Love You & Leap Year, both of which I love! And this book just reignited my dream to visit Ireland soooo much!!
