Sets up a series well by introducing future characters. Slow sizzle on a second chance romance that’s a B-plot. Forced proximity. Hates all kids but his doesn’t suck. She can manage everyone. Wants to marry a dude and uses her friend to gain experience. Trapped into marriage. Chess. Unconventional upbringing. Strip dominoes. Making up for an unsatisfying first sex. Duel by swords in her honor. Causing a scene for love.

Dead parents. Unfaithful spouses.

I would normally file a book from this genre on my "Guilty Pleasures" bookshelf, but I can't with this one, I no pleasure from it at all.

Review - One of James's best I think because it really brought out the unhappiness of arranged marriages in the Georgian period. The idea of trapping someone into marriage, in this novel, proves that it isn't always what you thought it would be. Although Jemma Duchess of Beaumont isn't the central character it is intriguing to see her development throughout the story, particularly in the relationship with her husband.

I loved this in the beginning and then, I feel like I got lost. There were so many characters and the romance felt rushed.
