The best thing I could say about this book is that I enjoyed it more than I expected. It was fun in a light, don't-think-too-hard, forget-about-it-the-next-week way.
I didn't struggle with reading it but I wasn't totally happy about it either. If I got a lev [$, pound, euro] (pound actually, it's got the highest value) for every time I had the urge to roll my eyes, I'd be rich enough to buy a new laptop (or three) by now.
It's been said before, and better, but Ball & Chain didn't feel like Ty and Zane's book, it felt like Nick's book. If I was as invested in the series as I used to be, this would be a disappointment. Now it's all the same for me.
Also, that island set up, with cut off communications when they are expecting to be attacked is palinly stupid. If the idea was to show that the Stantons wanted to draw out their enemies, they went so wrong about it.
I was going to make a status update about Burns being Chekhov's gun. He appeared so he must go off some way. And then he did before I got the chance to update. :D
For strong, capable men with serious issues they all quite successfully behave like school girls: chuckling, snorting, sniggering, snickering, chortling, All. The. Time.
The set up for N&K's book felt also less exciting than it was probably meant to be but oh well, it featured so it's forgiven.
The end result is: I din't love it but I didn't hate it either. The drinking-bingo game might have helped with that.
The sad thing is, I'm no longer moved by Ty and Zane. This series has run its course and I'm ready to see it finished and put it behind me. I will probably read the final book (no promises, though!) but I sure don't feel like squeeing and fangirling about it.

3.5 stars. And I feel bad for giving a Cut & Run book this kind of rating but…I just have to be honest.
When I saw this book here in Goodreads, I was wondering why it had a lower rating compared to the latest books in the Cut & Run series. Anyone who’s addicted to the series knows that this series is getting better and better with each book so the expectations for the eighth book are unbelievably high and I can say that a lot are disappointed with it. And yes, I’m on Team Disappointed.
Ball & Chain isn’t as bad as they say it is, really. It was good but not good enough to surpass the seventh book, Touch & Geaux, the one I consider as the best in the series.
The spotlight in book was now divided between Ty and Zane’s relationship and Kelly and Nick’s which was what made me slightly dislike this book. I mean, this is in the Cut & Run series, not the Sidewinder. Major happenings in Kelly and Nick’s relationship should be shown in Sidewinder not here. They have their own series so why put their cool stuff there? It’s not that I hate them but, man, I just needed more dose of Ty and Zane’s craziness and sweetness, okay? And there was less sex. But hey, if you’re trapped in an island with a bunch of killers, who could? Who knows? The killer could’ve shown up while Ty or Zane was having one hell of an orgasm. That would be really embarrassing for everyone.
On the bright side, the developments in this book were awesome. We now have a concrete—I think there is a better way to describe it or something—villain, not just some random person or people who want to get Ty or Zane or anybody related to them killed. Hurray for that! Also, Nick and Ty’s friendship’s mended. Everyone now knows about the Abbott-O’Flaherty relationship and they’re going to get married. So are Ty and Zane. I hope they do a double wedding. (I’m more excited about their honeymoons, though.)
However, let’s face it. The story’s not yet done so I don’t think I should jump into conclusions or whatsoever. Ball & Chain will still have a sequel and maybe that would be the conclusion to this whole Vega cartel arc. So maybe by then I would re-rate Ball & Chain or something.
So final verdict? 3.5 stars, the lowest I’ve used in rating a Cut & Run book. The transition of adding the Sidewinder couple in is still odd for me and the events weren’t as thrilling as I expected them to be.

I wondered how best to review this book and have decided that I will leave most of the talking to the dozens of reviews that have already been posted. Yes, I was late the party. Yes, it was because I saw that some readers had been disappointed. I chose to wait a while and read Ball & Chain when I was in the right frame of mind.
So did it stack up? Up front, let me say that yes, I enjoyed the story. I loved seeing Ty and Zane back together and I loved seeing more of Nick. The mystery seemed a bit far-fetched but that didn't really matter as I wasn't reading this story to follow the clues. Where I felt slightly let down was in the relationships presented. Firstly Ty and Zane didn't have the same chemistry as in the earlier books - sure, time had passed, they'd been apart and had changed, but at their core they felt different - too romantic perhaps? It also felt very much like Nick and Kelly's book and I felt they stole the show a little.
If I were rating this book as standalone, I'd rate it as a 4 but as part of the series, it fell a little flat, more like 3 stars. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh because my expectations weren't met and I'd rated the rest of the series so highly. So I'm giving a 3.5 - I did enjoy the book.

Just to be clear. I love Ty and Zane. I even love Nick and Kelly. I followed this author to Tumblr just so I could get updates and extras. I LOVE this series.
Now. This book let me down in more ways than I can express. Half the time I couldn't tell who was talking and/or in the room. The Ty/Zane moments were out numbered by the Nick/Kelly moments. The few Ty/Zane moments that were there were cute, but in my opinion (having experienced military reunions personally) not entirely accurate feeling. Also, I really didn't understand how Ty went from being legendary badass to certain people to these certain people suddenly not liking and/or respecting him.
Ok enough about that. The rest of the book wasn't really that much better. It was very confusing, I still don't get who killed a main character and the whole reveal seemed to take forever.I'm not even gonna comment on Nick and Kelly's engagement and the shenanigans that are gonna happen in Cross & Crown.
Also, I don't think i'm the only fan of this series who feels this way about this book. Many others have posted much better reviews than me.

It wasn’t as good as the last book I think, but it was still entertaining. I liked the whole wedding plot and I’m a sucker for Scotland, so that helped!
I also loved the last scene (not saying more because of spoilers) and I’m curious to see how it will all end in the next and last book of this series.
I’m starting to find that I will actually miss these characters.

I finally read this one and, oh boy, it's never a miss with Abigail Roux.
I love Ty and Zane so damn much! I love their personalities, the way they think and feel and do things, how they are inside and out, but above all, I love who they are when they're together. I love them together, period.
These guys were always meant to be. Their love is a written-in-the-stars-more-than-life-itself-even-beyond-death kind of love and I'm just so damn glad I was with them every step of the way.
You have no idea how I feel inside knowing that after everything they went through, after all the pain and shock and traumatic experiences, they have something special, powerful and unique. They have each other and something that I would say transcends life itself.
I'm getting misty-eyed, I'm afraid. It's just that the idea the journey is coming to an end is making me sad and more than slightly panicked.
Moving on, Ball & Chain was just as awesome as the other books in the series.
This time, Ty and Zane travel to Scotland, in the company of Nick O'Flaherty and Kelly Abbot, to attend Ty's brother, Deuce's wedding, that is going to take place on a private island.
But nothing is ever easy when it comes to our beloved heroes, so of course there is crime, murder and mayhem in the middle of all this.
Also, Nick is going through a hard time dealing with feelings of anger and betrayal toward Ty, due to past situations involving Richard Burns and that, adding to the angst surrounding the entire thing with his father, creates a lot of interesting drama.
The fact that Roux was able to make me love Nick, when I used to think he was a huge fucker who only wanted to steal Ty from Zane shows how talented a writer she is.
I really came to admire him, his dedication, love and loyalty toward his friends and how he was always there to support and cheer everybody up, while being hurting really bad himself.
I understood his position and how he felt he had lost Ty, because he didn't listen when it came to Burns, but I also felt hurt for Ty and everything Nick said in anger.
I hope this doesn't change anything in their relationship. That would be a shame.
And that tidbit about who was behind the events that happened in the island? It left me nervous as hell. I hope that person doesn't succeed in his plans.
That remains to be seen, though, so I'll wait anxiously for the next book, even though it might very well be the last one and that makes me want to crawl into the next corner and wail like a banshee.
OMG! The feels!
