I was a little nervous diving into this one, considering some of the prominent...less than stellar reviews on here. But I loved the last few books in the series (though Stars & Stripes is hands down my favorite), even Touch & Geaux (yes, Ty and Zane were fighting, but I think it actually made their relationship stronger in the end). And let me tell you: they were proven wrong. Yes, there's a lot of Nick and Kelly in here, but the book still belongs to Ty and Zane. (And Nick and Kelly's relationship seems much more grounded and real than in Shock & Awe. I read spoilers about
their engagement
and feared for the worst, but it actually totally made sense. I didn't even mind
Ty and Nick fighting. It was clear Nick needed to get over the same things Zane did in the last book.
) And that LAST SCENE
where Zane finally accepted Ty's proposal
. I teared up, I swear.

I was both excited and afraid to read this book. Excited because hello, Ty and Zane are fantastic and I love them and of course I wanted to read more about them! Afraid because... well, the seventh book broke my heart (and most readers' as well, I believe) and I did not want that to happen again.

I only now got my eyes on the book, but for the past months I've been reading some reviews. Some people loved this book, some people hated it.

I certainly didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. It just... it didn't feel like Ty and Zane. They felt too superficial... like the problems the 7th book had created, had suddenly stopped existing.

BEGGINING OF SPOILER

Ok, I loved all the marriage proposals and the ending left me smiling but I can't help feeling that they're jumping too fast into the marriage boat. Maybe I've forgotten a lot of details from the 7th book but I feel like they still have a lot of problems to work through, and getting married doesn't seem like the right solution.

END OF SPOILER

I had also been expecting to find a different POV, being it from Nick or Kelly, but that didn't mean I enjoyed it. I have nothing against Nick or Kelly, I like them as characters, just not as the main characters. Isn't that why they have their own series? So that fans can choose which couple to read about? I fell in love with Cut & Run because of Ty and Zane, not because of Nick and Kelly, so I would like if the series kept focusing on them.

The mistery itself... well, I don't think any of us reads this series because of the policial part, am I right? It was a bit confusing at times and it seemed like a lot of work for nothing, but it still wasn't that bad of a read.

I liked this book, but more as a stand-alone book than part of this fantastic series.

Okay, this was quite meh even in the action-front. I've learned to no to expect a rational plot, but c'mon! A wedding, the guest trapped in an island without means to communicate with the world, during a storm? In a castle with secret passages? It couldn't have been more cliché. Also, it reads like a fanfiction-ish crossover between 'And Then There Were None' and Harper's Island'

Also, Nick and Doc? Seriously? Why? Since when everybody in the Army is gay/bi? Oh, well! I didn't care about them in the last book, I won't in this one, either. Sadly, they are here almost more than the protagonists. /0\

And then, there is Ty and Zane, who still have resolved ZERO of their issues, shouldn't be able to trust each other, and yet, there they go: marriage! *bangs head against wall*

And of course, everything that happens in this story is because of Ty's past; Ty is responsible for... well, everything.

And, after listening to this story, I think if a see someone winking I'll cry.

I love this series. The book starts with Sidewinder returning from deployment. Zane and Ty are back together, but there are consequences based on what happened at the end of the last book. Ty's brother, Deacon, asks Ty and Zane to come to Scotland for his wedding and to bring Nick because he needs a bodyguard for his daughter. Kelly is Nick's plus one. The wedding takes place on an private island and everyone is stranded and people are being murdered. I did not figure out the "who done it" until it was revealed. All I have to say is WOW...that's a set up for future books and connects to the mole in the FBI. This book was a wonderful entry into the series. We learned more about Nick and Kelly's past along with information about Ty & Nick's early relationship. Some of the conversations were painful to read but I felt the end result was worth it. I can't wait for the next entry though. I feel like Ms. Roux did a nice job setting up the ending to this series. I can only hope that we will continue to see Ty and Zane in future Sidewinder books.

I've come back to my review after reading so many negative reviews of the book. I actually went back and read it to see if I was off base in my thoughts. There were complaints that it really wasn't a Ty and Zane book but I disagree. Yes, there was a lot of Nick (and Kelly) but that was necessary to move the Ty's story forward. Others complained that Ty and Zane had changed but that the reader did not get to see it. I disagree. Ty's action at the FBI office show he's changed. The things he noticed about Zane show he'd changed. And, Zane has a new confidence that he wants to show off. He's much more settled and comfortable. The way he tried to talk Ty through some of the issues showed his growth. The whole Ty asking Zane the question over and over show how much both of them have grown. And, Ty getting advice about Zane from Nick was touching.

I've come to believe that in long term series there will often be a book that isn't everything the reader wants but is necessary to get to the book in the series. I think that was the case here...it was necessary for where we will be taken next.

The reason why I started reading this series and continued is because of Zane and Ty's growing in their bumpy relationship, that relationship has mostly come to a perfect solid build after book 7, and I love Zane and Ty so much, they can't get any more solid, so in a way this book can't compete to the last ones where it wasn't about them anymore, which is understandable because it can't get any better than what they already have had, that last part in this book was a small part added to hopefully their perfect ending after.
