Well I was very interested in this book after all the comparisons to other books that I recently loved such as room and my dark Vanessa. And I will say it took me a hot minute to get into it, and did get there and I like the approach that was taken for this particular narrative. And while this feels like a very different book from my darkness that, I do see why it would speak to an audience that enjoyed that book, as much as one can enjoy something so awful. However dark horses takes a different turn, beyond just being about incest, it's also a coming of age story; and furthermore it shows the ways in which powerful men with money can keep anyone captive. And worse how you can use mind control, to keep somebody under your thumb. This book moves fast, I almost would have liked a little more backstory, a little more about whatever Monty's deal is - but the last quarter of this book picks up through Rosie under the bus knocks you all around as a reader, and it's hard not to keep reading.
