Damn you Craven.
I was halfway through the book yesterday evening, so now I have to operate on 5 hours of sleep today, since I HAD to know what happens.
this book is brilliant, its clever and a complete page-turner.
By now, I absolutely adore the main characters and their dynamic.
I kind of knacked through what was happening, but I was unable to figure out HOW.
And hence, a late night, cause how can I sleep without knowing?

This is the second book of this series I've read, this one was definitely the better.  Good writing, interesting characters, and a plot that stayed just the right side of plausible (the other one I read was very much on the implausible side).  Plus, a familiar North Cumbria setting as the icing on the cake.

I really enjoyed this, even more than the first book. There is some animal cruelty at the very start which gave me pause but once I got quickly past that it was a great twisty murder mystery.

Poe and Bradshaw make for great partners and I love how they work together. Individually they are really interesting characters but it's the times when they're working together that are the highlight for me.

The story is dark and more than a little gruesome this time around but I found it a compelling read and blasted through the whole thing in more or less a day. There are also little moments of light and humour that stop it getting too heavy.

It's well written and pacey with great dialogue. My only slight critique is that there would be an odd paragraph here and there dumping info on you about a place or some history that felt like a Wikipedia entry.

Overall though a great read and I'm probably going to binge read the rest of the series now.

Another brilliant book by M W Craven.
The plot for this one was slightly more far fetched than the first but still captivating and a lot of fun with some twists I did not see coming!

My only criticism... needed more Tilly!

Onto book 3, this series has me hooked.

Police procedural second in the series with the unlikely duo of Poe and Bradshaw - he’s a rough around the Edgar’s push boundaries cop and she is an obviously autistic analyst

The main rule - never
confront a sociopath alone if you want to keep all your limbs attached to your body
. Black Summer is a decent addition to the series, though I found its predecessor much more compelling
(beacuse I’ll take a dead pedophile over some poor girl any day, every day)
. The opening chapter’s intro about those little birds? Totally uncalled for and my poor fragile heart just can’t take that kind of thing.
I’d love for the rest of the books to already be out in Russian, but with our publishing industry on life support, I guess I’ll have to slowly struggle through the English text instead, because so far, this series is surprisingly addictive.

I get the urge to dive into a British or Irish murder mystery many times throughout the year and this series seems to consistently scratch that itch. Exactly what I was looking for, cozy enough but not without some stakes.
