Beautifully weaved story about a sister who fought for her family and for the man she loved, and the man who taught her how to find her own strength as he dealt with his own vulnerabilities. A great love story, it was full of sacrifice and humility, and I enjoyed the wit and humor. The characters were well rounded and the whole book was hard to put down.

The Socialite is a story of a a woman, Kat, doing whatever it takes to bring her sister home to the safety of England. I had high hopes for this book. It seemed like it had all the elements of a great historical fiction novel: a war torn family, hidden secrets, and a storyline about finding love. But somehow, despite all the elements, the story fell flat. I did not have an emotional connection to the characters, the dialogue was hard to follow at times, and I did not always follow the plot. There were so many opportunities for depth (they spent a weekend at Hitler's house as guests!) and yet...it did not reach past the surface. It was a fine book. My general feeling about it is just a sense of apathy.

This was a super cute historical fiction book that I just stumbled upon for $2 at the store. Kat, the heroine of the story, has just arrived to Nazi-occupied Paris in search of her sister, Ellie. Finding her sister on the arm of a rather resourceful and controlling Nazi officer, Kat recruits the leader of the Rebellion, Barrett, to join her cause and transport her and her sister safely home. Unbeknownst to her, Barrett has been hired by their father and tasked by the British government to find the Whiteford sisters and use their standing to get close to Hitler's inner circle to learn secrets that can turn the tides of the war.

I enjoyed the slow-burn romance aspect of this book, as well as the dynamic and development between Kat and Barrett. There was plenty of nail-biting action sprinkled through the plot, as well as under-cover anxiety sprinkled with near forced-proximity. It was a nice blend of everything with a fast-paced and intriguing plot. (02/2023)

This is a story that takes you into the heart of the fight between the Nazis and the Resistance in Paris and is, in a way, reflected in Ellie and Kat. These two sisters were as opposite as night and day and often find themselves at odds with each other. Yet in the end, their bond proved too strong to break, Though I had a hard time getting into this novel at first, as the story progressed, I found myself enjoying the read. The Socialite was a story not only of struggle but of trust. Each character had to learn who they could trust and accept the help they offered, no matter how hard it may have been.
