With all the magic I'm not sure why so many characters need to be alcoholics. Almost every scene had alcohol in it. It felt very unnecessary to me.

Nope.

I wanted to DNF this book so badly, it put me into such a reader's slump.

I was so excited when I read that the book was similar to "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina".....sure the show is cringe at times, but it's also really dark, fun, and sexy. "Payback's a Witch" was just....cringe.

Also, how many pop culture references do we really need? Why is the FMC so pathetic and unlikable?

I'm sorry but this was a really tough read, it was just so boring --a real drag.

I liked the vibe of this book - it was a bit more of a simple/classic romantic story than I've been reading recently. Like very "girl returns to her hometown that she swore she'd never go back to and falls in love enough to stay" story line, but even with that predictable plot, the addition of magic and the family secret revealed at the end kept me engaged. Overall I enjoyed it.
