I was given a digital ARC of the Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year vol 3 for review and it was probably the best early holiday present I’ve received in a long time!

Trying Submission by Xan West Blew My Femme-Fat-Subby Mind! I am so grateful for the chance to read this story. It is one of the best D/s pieces I’ve ever read. I fell in love with the story in the first moments of reading it. The main character, Lillian, is a fat, femme, submissive that speaks to my heart with her Ursula t-shirt and joint issues (knee). Even her dark lipstick and the way she imagines her barriers strengthening through tentacles made me grin with joy when reading.
I'm a fan of how the characters are described and yet how none of their descriptors are ever used against them in the story. The fact that they are fat, femme women of color or that the main character is disabled is never a plot tool or part of their character development. It just is and how its told in the story is very real because its simply how they interact with the world.
As an erotica writer and advocate for fat reps in erotica, I talk to a lot of readers and this is exactly what many of us are looking for in representation – state that they are fat, show how they move in the world, and move on. Trying Submission does that beautifully.
I’m also a fan of how Xan shows the non-sexual D/s scene. It was realistic and appealed to my own submissive nature.

My other favorite story was Rainbow’s End, a short cute scene by Emily L. Byrd that focuses on adorable, short, goth writer Lizzie as she attends a reading at a LGBTQ+ book store, catalyzing a lot of firsts for her.
Lizzie's story gave me all the feels especially in that, while it doesn’t explicitly say she lives happily ever after at the end, I can believe it.
The scene felt real from the casual introduction including pronouns and Lizzie’s bashful insecurities to the charming push pull of consent in the courtyard to the sexy tights tearing. Ah those early fumblings of our first times with another girl.

A fantastic book to add to your erotica collection or keep at the bedside for one handed reading (snuggle it with your favorite toy and you’ve got a hit). The stories here really open up suggestions for your own fantasies, which make it a hit for me. Even the stories that didn’t do it for me had great parts that got my gears turning and expanded my mental fap-folder. I can’t wait to see what future volumes bring and what these authors come up with next.

I got an ARC from one of the authors but was not paid for this review.

I think I really liked most of the book. I don’t remember why I stopped for so long but I wish I didn’t. I don’t remember enough for a full review tbh, but I’d recommend it.

I enjoyed this anthology overall, though I would've liked to see more diversity throughout, and I had problems with a few of the stories. But there were also ones that I just loved!

Read the full review on my blog.

Some of these didn't do much for me, but a few were mind-blowing

I have come to love the erotic anthologies Sacchi Green puts together. Best Lesbian Erotica of the Year Vol. 3 showcases 17 high quality and diverse stories.

There are all kinds of scenarios, from sex in public places to the privacy of your own bedroom. There are older butches, young nimble ballet dancers, full bodied women, first time lovers, women of color, there’s light kink, toys, people on the spectrum, addiction. Most stories are contemporary but there are a few historicals as well.

I loved the whole selection, but a few stood out and those I want to mention.

Ninjutsu by Valerie Alexander - we know she is going to have sex on this flight from Tokyo to Honolulu because that’s fulfilling a lifelong fantasy. The anticipation and thrill of making a choice between the possible sexual partners on this trip and how she’s masterfully going to pull this off is all part of the foreplay. Very, very sexy.

Fuck Me like a Canadian by Raven Sky - takes us to a public Maroccan bath. The improbable romance between a white tourist and a Berber beauty. I loved the style, it was detailed, funny and it made me curious to read more of this author.

Oliver: Twisted by Nanissi Barrett D’ Arnuk - Cheryl works in surveillance at a Las Vegas casino. She loves to watch the cuties on her monitor during her night shift, like Jerri from Wichita, who is visiting town with her sister and turns out quite spellbinding in bed. Entertaining story from a new author (at least new to me).

The Auction by R.G. Emanuelle - is a well known name by now. She has a very nice offering for us. A woman bids on a date with a bachelorette at a socialite fundraiser. You can imagine already this the perfect scenario for some hot sexy times.

Trying Submission by Xan West - was different because the author combined ethnic diversity, being on the spectrum and bdsm and turned it into a very interesting scene. Very well done.

Sweet of My Heart by Anna Watson -set in 1931 in Harlem where starving dance hall girl Mimi La Rouge visits Father Divine’s Peace Mission for a hardy meal and meets Charmed Soul (Charlie) one of Father Divine’s Sweets. An unusual love story told by both pov’s.

Sacchi Green sure knows how to pick them. I highly recommend.
