this book could’ve been a 5 star if the author had only published the first part and left the second part in her draft.

i absolutely loved the atmosphere in "Before” reminded me of the movie "Blue (2002)" the development of the relationship between the characters was so smooth that it made me feel like the entire world had collapsed leaving only Ash and Poppy alone and yet they still managed to find peace in that situation and enjoy each other's company.

i also liked the writing it was so simple yet it carried so much power and depth in its meaning.

usually i avoid reading books with teenage protagonists because they are often poorly written either too naive and foolish or lacking emotional maturity and as a reader i can't really complain because that's exactly how teenagers are.

anyway all of that changed once i started reading the second part “After” nothing made sense and the story took a nosedive

I am heartbroken, but also weirdly happy about it. This book has all the feels. The happiness. The sadness. The loss. And my chest is still literally clenching. ALSO WHAT THE HECK WAS THE ENDING. It also reminded me of a verse from poem I read in school, by Luís de Camões: "Para tão longo amor tão curta a vida!" which very roughly translates as "for such a long love, such a short love". At the end I just got reminded of that... and I had to say it somwhere. Enjoy your suffering! <3

I’m not a religious person and I don’t believe in a god. Nor do I believe in something after death. However, I am someone who’s has experienced loss. Reading this made me understand why people desperately want something to happen after death. If this is how it goes, it would bring me a lot of comfort.

Usually, I don’t read romance, but I’m glad I picked this one up. This book is hauntingly beautiful and will stick with me till the day I die.
