This is the first time I’ve read any of the twisted series so my opinions may change upon reading the next books.
I side with Josh. Alex is an awful person to everyone, but especially to Ava. Lying and manipulating is one thing, but to obsess and stalk her for the equivalent of a year!!!! I wouldn’t wish that on my greatest enemy, unless that enemy is Alex Volkov. In that case, he deserves it and more. Poor Ava is effectively a victim of domestic abuse, with a conclusion of being coerced back into a relationship with him because he controls absolutely every facet of her life.
What I enjoyed: hmmmm, I read this in two sittings. I liked Ava being a little more than one dimensional character, even if it’s only because of her having a phobia and memory issues. I liked that she felt a bit more real than an ethnically ambiguous self insert by talking about some of the cultural aspects of being raised Chinese, despite how americanised she has become.
That’s it, that’s pretty much all I liked.
Hopefully this is just another case of “the first couple in a series is always the worst” and hopefully they’re better as side characters in the next books. I’ll cross my fingers, but won’t have high hopes.
