I have long enjoyed Dr Gabor Maté's books and talks on YouTube/Instagram regarding trauma and health. This latest book does cover a lot of these topics but with more updated studies, cases and insight in to a post-Covid environment. I find his analysis of humans as biopsychosocial individuals compelling and his arguments for healing aline with the kinds of social ills and conditions we see currently rising in our world (obesity, anxiety, ALS, MS, cancers)
It's a hefty tome with slow going beginning chapters that lay down the foundations of his approach to healing, but midway through I found the science and studies given so intriguing I was hooked.

so thorough and well-written. some really great stories and quotes; my favorite is "healing, in a sense, is about unlearning the notion that we need to protect ourselves from our own pain. in this way, compassion is a gateway to another essential quality: courage."
