Huh?
The further I read into this book, the more convoluted and diluted the information seemed to get. Some interesting theories but eventually too much info for this brain to process.

It's been months since I've finished this book and I still don't have the words to explain how great and life-changing this book is. The book balances anecdotes with data and offers a new insight into the world and trauma that is somehow both refreshing and confronting. According to the data in this book, there are life-threatening effects to not knowing or understanding how trauma, repressed feelings, and life as we know it affect our bodies. If you have the capacity, this is a must-read. Thankfully, Gabor Maté has done various podcast interviews and it's a great place to start.
Fascinating look at "normal" and how to actually get there.

I’ve read every single book this man has written and by far… hands down…. This is his best work.
DNF at 25%. It’s not that it’s a bad book, there’s just nothing new here if you’ve read any of his previous work. I found it tedious.
Fantastic book. It gives honest picture of today's society.
Profoundly thought provoking and confronting in the best way possible. A life changing read, highly recommend this gem.
Whew, this was a big read!! The concepts presented are not new to me, but the anecdotes and studies shared clarified many things for me. I really appreciate the idea of “normal” being an inaccurate, toxic term, and appreciate the authors work in presenting the concepts in a non-judgmental, factual way. The reading journey took time, as I grappled with feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, coupled with determination to continue living more authentically and bringing community more to the forefront of my “normal” life.
The end paragraphs left me with that small flame of hope and determination, and I appreciated that. I recommend this read to everyone, despite my comments about the heaviness. It’s important work and we all benefit from it
