This was a stunning, sweeping novel. I found myself caught up in the story, thinking of it even when I wasn't reading. There was more heartache than I anticipated, but it was amazing just the same.

I didn't know the war was an important subjet in this story and certainly I wasn't expecting it. I hated Esteban Trueba since the first time he appeared until his death. Isabel's characters are so well writen. I'll always miss Clara.

i love stories that follow families across generations. i think they’re fascinating. this book is set in south america which was really interesting both because of the culture and the political issues that occurred in the book.
