Lemme cut to the chase: Long Division was incredible. I rarely read a book that has me laughing out loud and saying “mmmm” within a span of moments, but this was one of them. Laymon's book is surreal, provocative, and I could not put it down.
In Long Division, a junior high schooler by the name of City Coldson happens upon a book called “Long Division,” which, to his shock, follows a character named City who also resides in Melahatchie, Mississippi. The events that transpire highlight the ways in which the present plays upon the past, and how seemingly unrelated lives and stories bleed together.
I had seen this book all over the place since joining Bookstagram, and I am so glad I was able to pick it up! I honestly will be thinking about this story for a long time, and I’m excited to read Laymon’s other works soon.
