Short, pleasant, and quite different than I expected it to be. I resonated very much with the language about the trees, and I appreciated the step away from fae and into something deeper, older. A charming read, for sure.

Oh my god. This is one of my favourite reads of the year. If this book is on your TBR, go read it now. It is so short and fast paced, I read it all in a few sittings throughout one day. This book is everything whimsical and earthy and green and good. Rich with folklore and lush natural descriptions. A small but intriguing cast of characters. Mystery, magic, dryads, an ever-changing forest. You will fall in love with this story and with Tobias Finch. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Thisn story has a piece of my heart. Wow. What wonderful narrative, what a beautiful story. Even though it is very short, I have so many feeling about these people. I don't even know what to say, just that I loved it.

I really loved the premise/first part of the book: enchanted forest, cottage, dryads, rain and mist, mysterious and lots of potential. However, the second part immediately began to fall flat for me. History and events that deserved time to be explained and understood, connections that felt sudden and disjointed, lack of buildup needed to add weight and importance to what was happening for the reader, and even a little bit of unnecessary creepiness and briefly graphic violence that just felt out of place. The ending felt rushed and distant, and it certainly felt like a lot was missing.

SILVER IN THE WOOD is a fae-adjacent romance where a Wild Man finds himself falling in love with a curious newcomer to the wood, digging up secrets long buried.

The characters are nuanced and deep, impressively so for such a short book. I liked everything: the world building; the romance; the characters; the plot. The slow-burn pace makes it feel like it builds forever, while the low page count makes it take no time at all. I'll definitely read the sequel.
