Really appreciated this book. Only reason I'm giving it 4 starts is because I really wanted more "how." A lot of this was big-picture, which was great, but I agree with another reviewer who said they wished it had been a bit more prescriptive.

Part antiracist parenting strategies, part parenthood memoir. Good for all, but especially whites who insist on raising their children colorblind. Hint: don’t. I understand that feels like the appropriate default, but we (whites) need to do better.

This book is a very useful tool for anyone who cares for kids (parents / teachers / and other adults who are around children) and wants to raise them to be anti racist. It wouldn’t be an effective tool for someone who didn’t have that buy in. It would be helpful for caregivers of all races. I loved the examples Kendi used from his own life and showed how the parenting could have been improved to support the development of an anti racist child (his parents parenting of him and his brother and his own parenting of his daughter). These examples made the messages very understandable. I also loved the data backing his big talking points. Definitely recommend.

As this had been waiting on my shelf for awhile, I decided to listen to it, but I ended up following along in print as well. For a short book, this one is packed with important information and thoughts about raising children to be antiracist. Similar as in How To Be an Antiracist, Kendi intersperses his own experiences in his life and now his experiences with his baby daughter in his discussion on how to raise an antiracist. I was pleased that he acknowledged antisemitism as an issue in the world as well as racism. His main points are that you should expose your kids to people who are different from yourselves and that you should not deny the existence of racism.

Part history. Part memoir. Part parenting advice. Surprisingly, there were also lots of takeaways for myself as a teacher. Lots of good information and lots of things to think about and reflect upon.

Gave me alot to think about, and it gave me a lot of ways I can change to be more anti-racist. I also feel better equiped to raise my future children to treat others as equals, to be allies and anti-racist.

I forgot that my copy is signed. And I squealed out loud. So, that should tell you how this went for me.
