I listened to the audiobook of this and I would totally recommend it as your way to take in this book because having it read by Jonathan himself gives you the real feelings he is going through as the book progresses and It made the experience so enjoyable for me. Now about the book it's self. Ever since I saw the first season of the queer eye reboot drop on Netflix and immediately binge-watched it Jonathan was my absolute favourite, his upbeat positive energy and the way he is just so 100% himself not caring what other people think was so inspiring to me and the way he plays with and views gender is just so refreshing so I have been following him on social media ever since. When I heard he was writing a book I knew I was going to read it right away. It was a truly eye-opening sometimes shocking and emotional journey learning about the real Jonathan Van Ness and the struggles he has gone through and overcomes to be the fabulous positive light of a person we see. It was raw a real and I can only imagine how scary it would be to tell the world your true life story when you are seen in a certain way in the spotlight. If you are a real fan of Jonathan this is a must-read. There was ALOT about the world of figure skating and hairstyling as they are both so important to him, and if I was reading this book as someone not interested in those things at all I could see those parts being slow to get through (again, Audio book lol) but having finished this book in one day I would say its worth it.

Fun to listen to the audio book. I felt bad for Jonathan at the difficult times in his life. Will take the the thoughts of striving for one's self and knowing that if I fall it is normal and human. Also, try and get better while seeing the positive options that will help me.

JVN writes about his life and experiences in the voice we’ve all come to know and love from him; I flew through this book and it felt like it was a friend telling me their life story. Plus, he is open and vulnerable about the traumas he’s survived and makes so many salient points about mental health and self-acceptance. I didn’t know what to expect going in but I loved this!

I would give this book 4.7/5

I read the whole book with his voice in mind. It was raw, no bs and just so transparent. I would of loved to learn more about specific struggles and how he truly conquered them. He’s truly incredible, hilarious and I just ❤️ him.

Listening to JVN read his own story is pure delight. If you read it, do the audiobook.

From now on, I'm going to listen to all memoirs on audiobook - it makes the experience that much more personal. JVN's story is incredibly inspiring and I'm really impressed that he was willing to share the painful details of his personal life in order to reduce stigma and help others. I can't believe he went through so much trauma, pain, grief and loss and came out such an upbeat and positive person. Obviously, he's not like that ALL the time (everyone has highs and lows), but I just think it's amazing that he can dance around his kitchen making coffee every morning on his Instagram stories and motivate and inspire so many people. I love his message that beauty starts on the inside, taking care of and loving yourself.
