“[…] It’s an awful thing to miss someone who’s still here.”
Fredrik Backman has such a unique voice in his stories that manages to burrow deep into me and tear out emotions I didn’t know were there. Every story I have read from Backman has been both heart-wrenching and hopeful and ‘And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer’ is no different.
This novella is about an elderly man losing his memory and throughout the few pages we see him struggle to hold onto what truly matters to him as well as seeing his son and grandson witness and cope with one of the most important people in their lives forgetting who they are. This story is a reminder of what we should hold onto and how we aren’t alone. How someone will always be there to help us find our way back once we’ve lost ourselves.
By the end, I had tears in my eyes and an even deeper appreciation for Fredrik Backman. He’s slowly making his way into my list of favorite authors. I don’t think that I could recommend this novella enough.

devoured this in one sitting and wept the entire time— starting from the author’s note.

A very short yet heartwarming novella, full of emotions, could make you feel all the feelings written
The Writing style is so soft, good and full of emotions, it's gonna make you cry
My passed away grandmother was suffering from Alzheimer's too, so I have a strong connection to the characters.
Smart author and translator.

Breathtakingly and devastatingly beautiful.
Couldn't listen more than 8 minutes without crying.
Makes me miss my grandpa. He didn't suffer from dementia, but he loved his family nonetheless and we all also had to learn to let go...
I'm glad I was exposed to this piece of art. This is the type of work that needs to be read, to promote understanding.
