I think the hype and near mystic mythology surrounding the book are more interesting than the actual stories. They were creepy, sure, in a way. But not terrifying. Nothing like what loads of folks say it’s like.

Only picked this up cuz I read that the first season of True Detective was influenced by it. Honestly I didn’t see how at all and found the whole thing a bit of a slog.
