Chambers' best work - both of supernatural horror and of non-genre fiction - given the deluxe treatment it merits, with insightful annotations to aid the reader's understanding of period references and deepen the experience. I really really REALLY liked the first half of this book. Lovecraft without the troubles of Lovecraft. A little racist, but making a point with it. The last four stories were just French romances which were still good, but not eerie.

Great adaptation of a classic

Am I going insane after reading this book? By Hastur, I hope not. All I can say is that it is good. Great, even. The novel itself (which is more a series of interlinked stories) is an uncontested masterpiece, but this Graphic Novel adaptation by I.N.J Culbard is just as compelling. Much like the original text, this comic freaked me out with its creepy art and excellent pacing that make the moments the horrors come for you shine with a frightening luster. Highly recommended indeed!

I give this book 5 stars solely on the basis of the first story in the collection that left me giddy with horror. The other "King in Yellow" stories were also very strong. The rest of the book was okay - I think I would have enjoyed the last three stories about life in Paris as an struggling artist, if I wasn't waiting for the them to somehow tie into The King in Yellow - which they never did. It was that constant expectation that disappointed me, but that's not really the author's fault - other than possibly including them in the volume in the first place.

A collection of okay horror/supernatural stories from the Victorian era. Nothing too exciting, but a few of the stories were good. Lost interest after a while.

I didn’t know what was going on but man was I ENTERTAINED
