Ick. It's a hard read at times, but it was also hard to believe which takes you out of it a little - for better or for worse. Maybe if the book had been longer than 130 pages we could've spent more time getting caught up in Vera's emotions & really break us down as readers; everything was just laid out in a sequence of happenings going from one to the next. The story overall is atrocious - & to be quite frank I'm not sure I could handle much more - but this could've been written better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). I don't think I'll be reading any more Aron Beauregard books.

A great, fast book. It’s gross, grimy, and I felt like I needed to take a shower after some scenes (this is a positive thing.)
Vera felt well fleshed-out and real as a character, and I found myself rooting for her throughout the book.
If you enjoy splatterpunk, I highly recommend this book.

My main complaint for this book is the unnecessary depiction of gay characters in the second-to-last chapter. Their sexuality felt like it had no real purpose, and I’m not sure why it was included.

Well, that was definitely gross, as expected. Having some history on her family, upbringing etc is good but I think it went on longer than was actually necessary.
