Highly recommend this book to anyone who is in the body of Christ. The church needs more love and inclusion not hatred and expulsion. This makes such a fascinating case that gay christians are welcome in God's Kingdom. The historical aspects of the ancient world had a serious affect on the writers and writings of the bible and that should be taken into account. I think a lot of the verses that have been used to decry gay people, are verses that have been misinterpreted and we should be humble enough to be able to look at this verses again with new eyes.
amazing. this was so comprehensive and the argument was easy to follow.
the book takes you through all of the typical arguments against same sex relationships in the church, and refutes each of them using biblical evidence. i also appreciated that matthew vines brought ancient secular sources and historical context into his argument to help us better understand what authors of the bible were saying/referring to with the language they used.
he also didn't just state his argument and then be done with it, he went on to explain how by not affirming queer christians, we actually deny their potential to live according to God's image. to conclude he gives us a list of tangible ways to start/continue the conversation in our local churches/environments which i am very grateful for. thanks matthew vines u have made me one happy human

I'd honestly be interested to read the counterpoint to Matthew Vines' arguments, but he sheds much-needed light on the cultural context of the oft-cited verses of scripture that are commonly used by Christians against same-sex relationships. He also demonstrates admirable grace and patience to those who are on all sides of this "debate".
Excellent read for anyone looking to learn what scripture says about sexuality
This book is an excellent exploration of God’s views on sexuality as expressed in scripture. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in deepening their understanding of what the Bible says about sexuality. I have read additional scripture based explanations for affirmation of LGBTQ Christians which are not in this book. Although this book is not a complete synopsis of all pro-affirmation logical argument, it has solid researched foundations. If you aren’t sure where you stand on being affirming or non-affirming, the author lays out the arguments from both sides, and continually references scripture and it’s historical context for consideration.

This is another one I am reading for deeply personal reasons and I want to shove it into the hands of pretty much everyone in my family to save me the trouble of trying to explain what Vines outlined so well. His use of theology, history, and personal stories works well. I occasionally got a bit worked up while reading it because queer affirming theology still throws me for a loop, but in a good way.

Vines does an excellent job of weaving together personal experience and tangible evidence for the argument of affirming LGBTQ+ believers. I expected this book to be dense and difficult to comprehend, but the content was easy to grasp without being watered down. I appreciated the careful attention to detail, the history, and the context of the verses that reference sexuality and gender, and the way Vines presents all the information and allows the reader to come to their own conclusion. He does not shy away from detailing the harm that comes from non- affirming theology and the reconciliation that is possible. His analysis of scripture makes it clear that the Bible is the ultimate authority, but asserts that it is not speaking to sexuality and gender as we know them today. Through his writing, his love for scripture and his unwavering faith are evident and he make an excellent case for the affirmation of LGBTQ+ identities and belonging in the Christian faith.
