Reviews with content warning for Animal death - This Thing Between Us

Definitely engaging and superb writing of horror. Still, I didn’t like the whole plot, I liked how it was told but not the plot itself. Simple my preference. I also cannot stand animal death but after having read it fully I do have a great appreciation for how the book conveys themes of grief of a partner. Very similar in horror terms of “it follows”.

This book was my first horror/thriller and I gotta say that I don't think this was a good introduction to the genre. The beginning was great. It talked about the main characters grief and there was some alluding to there house being haunted. However, about 2/3 of the way through things started to go down hill. The plot seemed all mixed up. There was less explanation going on. And honestly it just felt like a completely different story from the first part of the book. I didn't hate the story but it was very lackluster and I wish that the ending had a little more to it. It was also a let down.

This is a strange story focused on grief. Thiago loses his wife and in his mourning re-counts and experiences strange things that are happening. Funny at times, some really strong quotes. Feels like one I need to sit with and maybe revisit? Definitely some fever dreamy vibes as well.
