Whoa deze was tof. En die laatste zin....gaah! Heerlijk als een heel boek op z'n kop gezet kan worden door één laatste regel :)

This was an impulse grab from the library and I am so glad I picked it up. A fast paced, intriguing and shocking YA novel, that leaves you guessing up to and including the very last sentence.

I received a proof copy of this book from my YA book club at my local Waterstones so thank you to them and Walker books.

I don’t usually read YA thrillers but after hearing some great early reviews I was intrigued. The premise of it was great initially but I wasn’t as engaged as I would have liked to have been. There were a lot of maths references and with me being someone who doesn’t like maths I felt lost. However, I loved how it brought mental health to forefront and being someone who suffers from anxiety I could really relate to Pete, our main character. The twists and turns were also fab and I was shocked by the ending! Overall an average read for me but if you love YA thrillers and have a mathematical mind mind you will enjoy this.

Complete review available: White Rabbit, Red Wolf

In short, it's a daring deception beautifully executed.

This has been yet another one where I've been so blown away it's been difficult to cement my thoughts to some coherent sentences. I'll hands down admit that I didn't get the hype at first. To me, it seemed like your standard YA novel with a plot I've seen done many times. Not unenjoyable, don't get me wrong, but nothing special. Boy, was I in for a shock as Pollock began to gradually deconstruct everything I thought I knew and I was left shaken as the plot twisted so many times it became an unbreakable knot. Such deceit and unreliability was supported by the wonderful writing, wholly engaging the reader into the world before Pollock tore it apart piece by precious piece. Hype well and truly deserved, mes amis, well and truly deserved.

It's fine.

Likes:
*it's often pretty witty
*easy to follow, I guess I enjoyed the writing in general
*themes - mental health, memory, family, math etc

Dislike:
*wish it was more psychological, less Da Vinci Code (again..) - the core concept was pretty interesting, but what was built around it was more like middle-grade fiction

what the fuck did i just read? in a good way. i think. i’m not sure about anything right now after reading this book. it was one hell of a rollercoaster, very mind-bending and mind-fucking and just twist after twist. it’s confusing, yet absolutely logical. just wow. read it and you’ll understand.
