A strong offering that gains much for geographical fixity. The black castle is a horrible, amazing thing, and Marron Shed is just the foil needed for the now-familiar figures of the Black Company. Really, really compelling reading from Cook!

This isntallment in the series is a genuine improvement on the first. I liked this one a lot. The world building was a little weak in places, and certain characters have absurd plot armour. Yet the story is exciting and moves beyond the basic set-up that much of the original novel seems so impressed with.

There isn't too much I can say here without giving things away. If you liked The Black Company, you'll like Part 2. I'm liking this series so far as the occasional read, and honestly if you like D&D style adventures you'll probably like it too.

The story of the Black Company really begins to pick up from here. The old enemy, The Dominator, is back and the Black Company must help the lady put him down. You learn much more about Raven in this book and see a whole different side of him. By this book I felt like I was a part of the company, and felt deeply the tensions and struggles they faced.
