Loved this one - it made me think and I found it really accessible!

very interesting, really made me think about how taboo talking about periods actually is, encouraged to challenge this in my personal life
informative

Some smiles here and there and some food for thought. I really appreciate the effort of debunking period-related myths and talking about the stigma and shame still associated to periods in this modern society of ours. However, I don’t think almost 300 pages were needed for that. Most chapters drag for too long.

Great to read an informative but casual book addressing the topic of periods.

This book would have functioned much better as a collection of short stories of period empowerment and humorous mishaps. The pages that include these stories brought a smile to my face. The rest of the book is the same sentence repeated several times over in various ways. There is a lack of acknowledgment of trans and non binary people’s experiences of the menstrual cycle with the author referring several times to the menstrual cycle being at the ‘core of a woman’s experience’. Ultimately my main issue with this book is that it’s all very well to say that the treatment of the menstrual cycle has been abysmal in society but you then need to provide an alternative or at the very least a small suggestion of how things can be improved or what needs to be done. The lack of follow up for such a point results in the book feeling tedious. There are many great books out there concerning period empowerment and discussing the history of the treatment around the menstrual cycle and your time would be better spent reading those.
