“My heart is yours, Hazel Sinnett,
Forever. Beating or still.”

THIS! This was absolutely all the vibes I wanted Stalking Jack the Ripper to be. It's gothic, it's gory, there's a mystery, and a sweet romance. I was a Hazel stan from the opening scene when she was trying to resurrect a dead frog like Frankenstein. I was rooting for her so hard from start to finish. I loved Hazel more than I loved the overall romance, but there weren't any aspects I disliked enough for this to be less than a 5 star because it gave everything I could've wanted from that synopsis. And (unpopular opinion?) I think the ending was great! It was dramatic and gave me just enough to want to read the second book as soon as I can get my hands on it.

I really enjoyed most of this book. However, the mystery really fell flat as the whodunnit was so painfully obvious from the beginning; I’ll also say that even though it was obvious to me there was also no build up in discovery just BAM it’s this person. There also wasn’t a lot of the “uncovering of secrets” until the last quarter of the book and even then it’s sparse. The conclusion was incredibly anticlimactic and the fantastical element introduced at the end felt kind of forced. I’ll probably eventually read Immortality because I did enjoy Schwartz writing and most of the story.
