I love Pratchett and the Watch arc in Discworld is one of my favorites, read this years ago and it's still a 5 star book for me and relevant in today's political climate.
Poor Snow White.
I love that Pratchett loved libraries and learning.
And maybe when people got out of jail, they wouldn't be worse then when they went in.
Wonder what Pratchett would think about all the library book banning in the US in 2022.
“But I thought they were, you know…miffs.”
The Supreme Grand Master leaned forward.
“They were myths and they were real,” he said loudly. “Both a wave and a particle.”
It is said that the gods play games with the lives of men. But what games, and why, and the identities of the actual pawns, and what the game is, and what the rules are—who knows?
Best not to speculate.
Thunder rolled…
It rolled a six.
Poor Snow White.
“I’ve always thought,” said the monarchist, pulling out a pipe and beginning to fill it with the ponderous air of one who is going to deliver a lecture, “that one of the major problems of being a king is the risk of your daughter getting a prick.”
I love that Pratchett loved libraries and learning.
Knowledge equals power…
The string was important. After a while the Librarian stopped. He concentrated all his powers of librarianship.
Power equals energy…
People were stupid, sometimes. They thought the Library was a dangerous place because of all the magical books, which was true enough, but what made it really one of the most dangerous places there could ever be was the simple fact that it was a library.
“Never build a dungeon you wouldn’t be happy to spend the night in yourself,” said the Patrician, laying out the food on the cloth. “The world would be a happier place if more people remembered that.”
And maybe when people got out of jail, they wouldn't be worse then when they went in.
Wonder what Pratchett would think about all the library book banning in the US in 2022.
although crimes against books were the worst kind of crimes, revenge ought, perhaps, to be postponed.

This is my first foray into the new readings of the City Watch books and I really like Jon Culshaw's work here. His voicing of beloved characters is delightful and appropriate. However, as with the other titles I've heard in this new series, the opening & closing music is completely out of place with Pratchett's work. Very jarring!
The language, cleverness and imagination in this book is genius! I laughed out loud many times and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it (ear-reading is my favorite way to read books). I am off to read more of Terry Pratchett’s many Discworld books. I know I have lots to look forward to.
Does what it says on the tin. My most-recommended jumping on point for Discworld. Doesn't lose sight of the plot for the sake of jokes, but doesn't lose sight of the jokes for the sake of the plot very often either.
Hard to evaluate this one. Each sentence taken separately is great, some of them you could call a masterpiece but the whole book is rather dull. The story is boring but the jokes are great. The decision to read it is yours.

This book expanded my vocabulary and made me laugh a few times—Carrot taking his job as a member of the Watch seriously as a new hire contrasted hilariously with his more seasoned colleagues who avoided actually enforcing the law at all costs—but I wasn’t really into the plot. I could tell Pratchett is a very skilled articulate writer, just not for me I guess. There was also a lot of unjustified swearing and some mildly vulgar comments. It felt like a drag and I’m happy to be moving on to other books.
