Read for Radio 4 by the man himself, this is a whimsical, self deprecating account of Clive James' early life in Australia. Witty, funny and a pleasure to listen to.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

A slightly drawn out autobiography describing a boy growing into a man in Australia in the 50s. It’s mildly interesting and sporadically funny, but nowhere near as hilarious as the reviews imply. Perhaps I’m just too far removed (geographically and age wise) from the subject matter.

Read this years back. I recall really enjoying. A genuinely witty man.

when this is funny, its very, very funny but when its not...well you wish James's mum had taken a cricket bat to his bum. the book is particularly strong concerning James's middle school years and I was honestly rolling with laughter over his recounting of (unlikely as it sounds) his nasal polyp surgery.

Such great writing and a great read. It really is laugh out loud often. And sometimes rather sad. I feel that Clive is often brutally honest about his life. Will look forward to reading further instalments.
