🏒 Summary 🏒
Two childhood friends. Two broken hearts. One impromptu road trip to get away from everything. That's all this was supposed to be.
To Jasper Gervais's fans, he's the handsome, talented hockey heartthrob on TV. But to Sloane, he'll always be the lost boy with the sad eyes and a heart of gold.
The man she's loved in secret all her life.
So when her life falls apart on the day she's supposed to marry someone else, it only makes sense that he's the one to swoop in and save her. And when his world comes crashing down around him, she's there to return the favor.
But the more time they spend alone, the more Jasper isn't looking at her like a friend anymore. He isn't touching her like one either. And after all these years, he's still everything she's ever wanted, everything she thought she could never have.
Their feelings aren't straightforward, though. They twist and turn around the pain of Jasper's past and the reality of Sloane's present.
Jasper Gervais might act like he wants her.
But after years of turning her away, he's going to need to prove it.
🏒 My Thoughts 🏒
I really really liked this one. Much like the other two books in this series, it sucked me in and was a super fast, easy read. I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

Boring af
Literally put me into a reading slump
The other two took me 3 days to read, this took 3 months and I think that speaks volumes

Something about the Chestnut Springs series that just makes me mushy and swoony! Powerless was no different. Sloane and Jasper were perfect for each other! I was slightly exasperated with Jasper’s spiraling insecurities but he was a big teddy bear. He was mysterious but so caring and soft with Sloane that I could help but gush! Sloane’s growth was beautiful to witness. She managed to step out of everyone’s shadow and fight for what she wanted in life and that is inspirational! I love their relationship! How silly they could be and vulnerable they were with one another. This was a love of tenderness and understanding. Truly perfect!

Jasper and Sloane, my new blueprint for friends-to-lovers. While not my all-time favourite Elsie Silver book, it was an enjoyable read! One thing to note is that it was very endearing to see the attention to detail that each of them has for each other, especially Sloane for Jasper. After seeing both Jasper and Sloane in the previous novels, it was lovely to read their story with so many good tropes sprinkled throughout their journey to being together (e.g.,
one bed trope
).
The reason why this rating is lower than others is that I wished we could delve into more of their traumas and family dynamics, as it felt a little incomplete or lacklustre.

A very cute friends-to-lovers romance with plenty of delicious tension that eventually built into some of the most intense smut I’ve read in a while. Sloane and Jasper stole my heart: the way they fit together and truly understood and complemented one another was so satisfying to read. The only thing that didn’t fully click for me was reconciling the Jasper we meet at the start with the Jasper in the later smut-heavy chapters, though that might just be me. The storyline itself was solid, nothing groundbreaking, but enjoyable, and I especially loved the use of text messages to open chapters, which got us more in touch with previous well-loved characters. Overall, a very enjoyable read, even if it didn’t quite become an all-time favorite.

Blame the reading slump on this book and this book alone
