Beverly Jenkins can do no wrong. This time around we have a gambling queen falling for a Kansas farmer, with a little help from his mischievous nieces.

Loreli was quite the character. The twins saw her and immediately chose her to be their new mother. She and their uncle Jake tried to ignore it but soon neither could. Their romance was such a good story. I really enjoyed this book!

Things I liked:
- The twins were the stars of the show. They were so cute, and I loved their little personalities.
- Loreli was a wonderful character. She was shocking and wipsmart with confidence to spare. I loved that she had faults as well to make her seem human and relatable.
Things I didn’t like:
- As much as I enjoyed the story telling, things really went too quickly from agonizing slow burn to actually being together. It was difficult to buy in for me.
- Abrupt ending. After such a long separation things were wrapped up in .5 seconds. Very dissatisfying.

This was my least favorite but I still enjoyed it. There were some character name errors that were a little annoying but what bothered me more was the pacing and the weird storyline. Plus Miss J’s dislike for the heauxs was VERY apparent this book.

I loved the found family aspect and i was satisfied with the romances the MMC wouldn’t be my choice but i could see why the FMC liked him. The ending was wild.

While I enjoyed most of the story the last part wasn't a favorite of mine. But still it was a good one.. I loved the family dynamics the most and how attached the heroine got to the heros niece's and how attached they got to her. The drama got exciting and was hard to stop listening to but the last bit went down a bit. Although by the end I didn't dislike it either

Beverly Jenkins has a way of writing where even though we know that this book takes place in a time that was not kind of Black folks, the stakes feel a bit lower because the characters can take care of themselves. In this book, Loreli is a gambler and very, very wealthy. So although she's a biracial Black woman with no husband and a "bad reputation"... she easily handles the men who mistreat her. She can buy whatever she wants (including soap and roller skates for her girls), and I just LOVE that for her.
