I guess the point of this really was leaning into a cliche, but meh all around. It wasn't BAD but there wasn't anything new or different about this at all, including the characters who were just typical. Maybe it's because it was a little too short or maybe there just wasn't enough to write about. Also some *interesting* views on Russian Lit. Meh.

My least favorite of the Penny Reid books. I feel like this was a deeply dysfunctional relationship.

I just love her smart heroines

I loved Penny Reid's writing style! She made the vibe of this rom com perfect, with some great banter and some cute moments. There were a couple of things that felt unresolved
like how we meet Luca's sister and they discuss Anna but then Luca's sister never meets Anna
however overall I loved this and will definitely pick up the next book in the series ASAP, especially after the sneak peak at the end of this one!

I'm being stingy with my rating because I wanted more.

I won’t lie, I was a bit nervous when I started this. But I appreciated how they openly talked about the power differentials and how Luca took responsibility for the inappropriateness/ forbidden Ness of it. I was also thankful and heartbroken when Anna withdrew and Luca tried to stop her and she “accepted the F.” It is a larger allegory of society’s expectation that the woman make the sacrifice, and take both the higher ground and the fall for the forbidden relationship. I won’t lie, I was glad when Luca stepped up so that she didn’t have to. Nice Job, Penny.

LOVED IT! So many feels, Russian literature references and philosophical banter (if that’s your jam) steamy kisses, angst and witty one liners, such as “Like the dark side of the Force, it called to me, promised me cookies.” & “I’d felt small and shabby. And not in a badass Hobbit way either.” Penny always knows the way to my heart: referencing my favorite fandoms with wit and humor. As always I love Penny’s writing! And I loved Luca & Anna! Swoon!
