I absolutely understand the hype of this - the writing is beautiful and truly innovative; I have never read an essay collection like this. Yet for me, it was so idea-based and abstract that I struggled to find a way to really hook in.

So disappointing. The essays just did not slap. Very disjointed. Peace and blessings to the author on her healing journey.

I really enjoyed the essays that focused more on history and academic research than personal stories. I think most of these are in the second section, so maybe if you're put off by the very first essay, try another from the middle, though they all do kind of reference the same material so maybe it won't make sense if you jump around. All to say, the writing is top notch when not, as others have described, "self-indulgent" (aka about ex boyfriends and feeling direct from LiveJournal circa 2003).
