I've read/watched a lot of Agatha Christie, but I have never read anything with Tommy and Tuppence. How is Poirot more popular/well known than this freaking adorable married detective duo?
The book itself is (obviously) a collection of short stories so they don't get into overmuch depth, but they were clever and joyful and just a really nice read for today. Loved it even if I solved nearly all the 'mysteries' pretty early on.
Good fun! This is a collection of short mysteries, threaded together by an overarching plot line that resolves at the end. Tommy and Tuppence are reminiscent of Nick and Nora from the movie The Thin Man; lots of witty banter back and forth and quite a bit of alcohol.
Tommy and Tuppence stories were among the first Christie I ever read, when as a kid I ventured out of the children's section and into the adult section of the library for the first time. I found a shelf full of Agatha Christie and went nuts, reading everything the library had. At the time, I didn't even get this book's references to Hercule Poirot, since I hadn't read any Poirot yet!

Book eleven of my personal read through of Agatha Christie in publication order!
A number of the mysteries are weak in this one, though a couple are quite fun, and perhaps I would have been more impressed if I didn't still remember some of the twists from when this was a favorite in my teens. :-)
I would still read this one again just for the entertaining banter between Tommy and Tuppence though!

I would get flack for this but the way I’d rank my Christie mainstays, Tommy and Tuppence rank higher than Poirot as far as characters go. (Miss marple #1 though). Short stories suit them incredibly.
glad to finally be acquainted with Mr. and Mrs. Besseford!!
