It's so hard to rate this book. In Ghost boy Martin Pistorius tells about his way back to life after he lost all ability to communicate because of locked in-syndrome. While his story is fascinating, this book was just not it. It isn't always clear when something happened. There are a lot of flashbacks, but I already cannot grasp the time in between the other chapters, let alone the flashbacks.
His writing style is also not very clear, a little chaotic, descriptive but also all-over-the-place. Sometimes he uses beautifully crafted sentences and metaphors, but in this context they only add up to the chaos.
At 2/3 into the book, it definitely got better. I felt like his sentences became clearer and more concise. I really loved the way he wrote about his wife and how they complete each other.
A link to his TED talk, covering his story a lot better than the book does. Without doubt worth watching!

A truly well done audiobook! I’d assumed this book was about something slightly different but the journey that this man had to take is truly awe-inspiring. The writing takes you right along with him in his lows and his highs. It was absolutely wonderful!

Ghost Boy is a beautiful true story of a man who had to learn to communicate and function with a body that would not cooperate. The abuse he suffered while in the care of others (outside of his family) was horrific. This book also served as a reminder that even those without a voice want to communicate but do not have the means to do so. Pictorius is a survivor and is happily married. :)
I had heard the interview on NPR, so I finally picked up the book at the library. I burned through it in an evening, because the writing is so smooth and honest and the story is just so heartwenching and hopeful.
I cried but they were mostly tears of joy and relief. I knew it was a happy ending before I opened it up, but it was still a satisfying read.
