A very philosophical graphic novel that wanders back and forth through time following the thoughts and life of Asterios Polyp.

Asterios is the guy I tell every Hana not to date but end up marrying anyway.

Review à venir, peut-être

D'un pdv visuel comme d'un pdv narratif, c'est superbement maîtrisé

this was a strange book, but there was one particular phrase that resonated with me deeply during a crucial moment in my life. The quote reads:

“if the creator of the universe is spending all his time watching you, it must surely be because he loves you”

This graphic novel has great art and horrific vibes
It's about Asterios Polyp, architect on paper, and his marriage and subsequent divorce to (sigh) a younger, admiring half-Japanese woman ten plus years his junior
It's soooo typical white-man of Mazzucchelli to write this.. like of course she's Japanese and of course she's super shy and that makes her so speeeeecial
The art is really pretty: look at this metaphor for how their understandings of the world come together and fall apart
But the white-man-ness of it all is unbearable
