3.75 ⭐️! This book is riddled with plot holes and what I can only describe as religious propaganda re: gender roles, individual freedom, and questions of choice, but I honestly couldn’t put it down. Stephanie Meyer puts narcotics into all of her songs, as Taylor Swift would say. Wanderer is a captivating character, and despite its flaws the plot was certainly engaging. I was hooked

Back when this book came out and I had it gifted to me I was too obsessed with Twilight to really pay any attention to it. Having read it, I wonder how it is that Stephenie Meyer wrote this, since it sounds nothing like her other books.
Mark me down as surprised and happy.
Now, since it has been 12 years and there is still no second book, I guess I’ll just stare into the void and shriek.

Having not read The Host since I was 18 I thoroughly enjoyed giving it a reread. As I was reading, all the feelings I had came back and I remember not being able to put this book down despite the length. I loved it just as much now as I did the first time.
