Lore escaped a world where the Gods aren't legends. The Agon comes every 7 years. Kill a God, take their power. Her family was killed in that world of constant fighting for power and finding death. She has been trying to avoid it. Now a God comes to her for help and she has to decide if she wants to avenge her family.
There are so many secrets and a lot of twists. The twists in the latter half of the book are what saved it for me. I got really into it with the brutal combat, the deadly encounters, intense secrets, and major twists. I loved how much the twists changed the story. One secret chabges everything. A really good take on mythology for me.

“Lore” Follows Melora (aka Lore) through the events of the Argon, a seven day trial every seven years where gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals. Hunters try and kill the Gods durring these seven days, because their immorality and powers are passed down to whoever wields the killing blade.
I think what brought this book down for me was the info dump at the beginning. Throughout the novel there were many plot points that left me confused, or plot holes which I felt needed more development. Stand alone fantasy novels can be difficult in that aspect, so I appreciated the fact that it was fast paced with lovable characters.
There is a great found family dynamic as well as romance (subplot) which contrasted well with some of the darker themes.
In case anyone is interested solely on the cover, Lore is NOT a Medusa retelling, but mentions her as well as other mythical women.

This book was underwhelming, I was expecting much more.
The premise is amazing and exciting but the execution... not so much.
The characters were underdeveloped and some events felt too convenient.
The story is told through Lore's POV and it might have been better for character development if there were multiple POVs. It felt like the story was unbalanced if that makes sense.
Some aspects of it were very creepy.
I did enjoy the flashbacks that gave us glimpses of Lore's past. The fight scenes were really good and I was curious how it would all end.
There are a lot of trigger warnings, so beware of that if you want to read it.
TWs: murder (including children); rape/sexual assault; loss of loved ones; grief; terminal illness; misogyny; abuse; gore; graphic violence; pedophilia; slavery.
